Beyond Emulation 4

Acrylic (24 X 32) Inches

Artists Comment:
I am trying control my Pollock emulation's by putting some restraints on line. This painting started out like the "Color Flow" painting on this update. As I finished the background, the painting seemed to need something. I made a decision to add line. You should be able to see the lines interwoven. There is not much planning in this kind of painting. I start with a plan and it quickly descends into chaos. My job is to let the paint do its thing and to exert some control to try and make the outcome painterly. I have been studying Abstract Expressionism and it seems the concept centers around order and chaos as depicted by the artist. If that is true, any painting that is the outcome of order and chaos would be considered Expressionism. The only difference is the artist disposition toward either order or chaos. That means all paintings are Expressionistic.

Detail of Above Picture

Color Flow is my technique of applying heavy coats of color and letting them flow together. This creates rivers of color that can not be duplicated using a brush. I coax the flowing paint by tipping the board, or using implements to move the paint around. When I see something of interest happening I quit. After the pain is dry, I look at the painting to see what else I could do to make it harmonious. In this case, I added line. The lines were placed over and under each other to weave them together.
