"Black Hawk Park"

Acrylic (24 X 32) Inches

Artists Comment:
This painting was developed after me and my grandchildren visited Black Hawk State Park in Rock Island, Illinois. This is a Park/Museum devoted to the indian chief Black Hawk. As usual, at the conclusion of the visit we sat at a shaded picnic table and talked about what we had seen during the day.  I always carry pencils and sketch-pads.  Each of the grandchildren drew pictures of what they had seen that impressed them most.  Later, I took these little sketches and combined them  and edited them in order to make an overall picture of their ideas and mine.  This is the basis for this painting.

Detail of Large Picture

This is a detail of the above painting. The main creative part of this painting was in the development of the sketch. The sketch was transferred to the board and then colors and values were selected based on my feeling for the time and subject. This detail is from the upper right part of the picture. I took the liberty of abstracting buildings and organic elements. We had a fun time and I hope the painting reflects that.
