Unknown Artist:
I bought this drawing at an estate auction. It is shown about actual size.
It is very old and fragile. I thought it might be a Cezanne drawing, since
the hatching on the foreground seems similar to his lithograph of the "Bathers".
The location, which appears to be Mont Sainte-Victoire and the disappearing
road are subjects that he often painted. It is unsigned, which was characteristic
of Cezanne. However, the foliage of the trees does not seem to resemble anything
that he did. It does not look like Pissarro, who often painted with Cezanne.
I know that Marsden Hartley went to live in that area after Cezanne died,
but I have not been able to find any of his drawing.
I wonder if any of you might know who the artist was. Please send me an e-mail if you think you know. Thanks, Dale
