It was that time of the year for the John Deere Classic golf tournament.
Over the last two weeks we had been bombarded with TV and newspaper coverage
of this tournament. It is no wonder that I had golf on my mind when I happened
to spot some golf clubs at a garage sale. I bought them and took them home
with the idea that I might start a painting with a golf theme. Later, as
the picture started to take shape, I notice that a multiple exposure was
starting to form. This was used by Marcel Duchamp and others to depict movement.

This is a detail of the above painting. It is found in the lower left of the painting along the shaft of the golf club and the golfer's leg. Usually, I will not depict anything representational in the background that will detract from the subject matter of the painting. I use the background to develop shapes, colors, textures, and values that balance the pictorial part of the painting.
