Artists Comment:
My grandchildren participated in the development of this painting. I think
their participation greatly influenced its outcome. This painting seems to
be saying that children learn the lessons of life through interaction with
other children. Some of it is cruel, and some of it is pretending. All these
experiences go into the formation of the kids character.

The materials were ready, the board, and most of the paste-on items. We then donned our costumes. We were determined to look like painters. Me with my wild bibs and clown shoes, the grandchildren with their oversized wild shirts, hats and grown-up shoes. The idea here was; If you think your an artist, if you look and act like an artist, and you have all the artist materials, you might just come up with something artistic. The actual job was full of youthful exuberance, bickering, and competition between the kids and the never ending picking on each other. The impression was so great the final painting had to be about children.
