Artists Comment:
I do not do many of these type paintings. Usually, a figure presents itself
so strongly that I am obligated to pursue it in the final composition. As
usual, I studied each of the boards four orientations to determine if there
were any figurative suggestions. There were indeed strong figurative characters
that wanted to make themselves visible. However, I decided to pursue the
non-figurative. I sketched the figurative characters and taped them to the
back of the painting. I thought that it might be an interesting demonstration,
some day, to cover this painting with white paint and start over using one
of these figurative characters. I work with the board flat. That way
I can move around it as I work. This assures that balance is achieved
whichever way you look at the painting. I did not sign it, so it can
be hung whichever way you want.

This is a detail of the lower center of the painting. I hope you can feel the attraction and at the final instant, repulsion the three colored shapes have on the line. And the inability to escape the large green shape.
