"Incidence at Auvers"

Acrylic (32 X 48) Inches

Artists Comment:
I have been studying Vincent VanGogh.  Vincent had a strict religious upbringing.  His paintings however, reflect a spirituality that transcends religion.  I think that this conflict eventually affected his mind.  Soon after his release from the mental hospital at Arles, he went to Auvers. There is where he painted "The Church At Auvers".  I think he wanted to pay homage to the god that got him out of the hospital.  My painting tries to portray that he was so focused on painting the church, that he ignored the butterflies all-around him. Of course the butterflies in my painting represent a higher spirituality.  Even the church bows to them. I think his heart was of a higher spirituality, while his head rationalized his religious upbringing.  This conflict eventually resulted in his suicide.

The pallet shown in VanGoghs hand is the same one that I used to paint the picture.  I squeezed paint out on it and used it to paint the picture.

Detail of Large Picture

This is a detail of the wing of the middle butterfly.  The lower portion is the pallet and paint that I used to paint the picture.
